Flies find the alfresco table before the family does. You carry out the salad and the snags, and the same cloud that has been working over the compost bin all afternoon moves straight in on the food. Sprays leave a smell near the plates, sticky strips are grim to look at, and a swatter only works while you are standing there holding it.
This outdoor fly trap takes a quieter route. Put a little bait in the tray, switch it on, and the slowly turning plate of the electric rotary fly catcher walks feeding flies off the bait and down into the enclosed chamber underneath — no pesticide anywhere near the food, and none of the sharp crack of a zapper over the top of the conversation.

Why It Stands Out
-
Rotary trapping, not zapping — this electric fly trap guides flies from the bait area into the enclosed chamber with a slow-moving plate instead of a high-voltage grid.
-
Built for where food is served — it suits covered patios, garden dining tables, verandahs, barbecue zones and the kitchen bench.
-
Your own bait — honey, fruit juice or a small food-based attractant goes straight into the bait tray, so you can match whatever the flies are chasing that week.
-
Pesticide-free method — nothing is sprayed around tables, food preparation areas or garden plants.
-
Quiet at about 20 dB — it can run beside a seating area through a long lunch without anyone noticing it is on.
-
Anti-escape chamber — the internal structure keeps caught flies down in the collection section, out of sight.
-
Reusable and battery powered — empty it, rinse it and set it going again, with AA batteries doing the work instead of a nearby socket.

Where to Place It
-
On the covered patio or alfresco dining table — this is where it earns its keep, working on the flies that come back to the same food again and again.
-
Under the verandah — sheltered garden seating gives it the protection from rain and direct water that it wants outdoors, and keeps it handy between meals.
-
Beside the barbecue — set it near the prep and serving bench while the meat is resting.
-
Near an outdoor drinks table — flies hunting sweet glasses find the bait tray first.
-
In a sheltered spot near the bins — a covered corner by the bin bay is a reliable fly route all summer.
-
In the kitchen or dining room — the same trap works indoors on a level bench or sideboard.
-
Near a door or window flies use — park it on the inside of the opening they keep coming through.

How It Works
1. Bait the tray — a small amount of attractant in the dedicated tray is what brings the flies in.
2. The plate turns — with the unit switched on, the transparent plate rotates slowly around the bait area.
3. Flies are guided down — a fly that lands to feed is carried gradually toward the opening and into the collection chamber below.
4. The chamber holds them — the anti-escape structure keeps them inside, with no adhesive surface and no exposed insects on show.

How to Set It Up
1. Choose an attractant — honey, fruit juice, a few pieces of ripe fruit or soft food scraps all suit the bait area, and small soft pieces let the plate turn freely.
2. Add a little — a small quantity does the job and keeps the clean-up easy afterwards.
3. Fit the batteries — drop in the AA batteries and reassemble the unit the right way round.
4. Switch the plate on — check that it is turning slowly and smoothly before you walk away.
5. Set it down level — use a flat, sheltered surface close to where the flies gather, clear of rain and sprinkler spray.
6. Empty it as you go — look in the collection chamber regularly through a heavy fly spell.
Tip: keep the trap a little away from the centre of the table, so the flies commit to the bait rather than to the plates beside it.

Care and Maintenance
-
Separate the parts — the turn plate, trap dish, escape cover and collection chamber all come apart for cleaning.
-
Rinse and dry — tip out the catch, rinse the washable components and let them dry fully before reassembly.
-
Wipe the motor section — the part holding the motor and battery compartment takes a dry or lightly damp cloth, kept clear of standing water.
-
Fresh batteries — swap the AA batteries when the plate starts turning noticeably slower than usual.
