Solar lanterns usually light a spot. This one lights the surfaces around it. The body is woven bamboo with open gaps between the strands, so when the LED comes on at dusk it throws a web of warm lines and shadows across the fence, the wall, the table it's sitting on. The lantern itself becomes the smaller half of the effect.

Why It Stands Out
  • Woven by hand, so no two match — weave tension and gaps vary between pieces, which means the shadow pattern yours casts is its own rather than a copy of the photos
  • Warm amber LED — amber rather than cool white, so it reads as lamplight through the bamboo instead of a torch in a basket
  • Runs itself, every night — set the switch once and a dusk-to-dawn sensor handles the rest; no timer, no app, nothing to remember
  • 10–12 hours per charge — an 800mAh battery filled by 6–8 hours of sun covers a long evening comfortably
  • IP65 weather rated — the electronics are sealed against rain, humidity and heat, so it stays out through the season
  • Hangs or stands — a metal hook for branches, beams and shepherd's hooks, plus a flat base for tables and ledges
  • Two shapes — Wide diamond at 18 × 26.5 cm and Tall cylinder at 11 × 26.5 cm, which do genuinely different jobs
  • Nothing to run — fully solar, so no wiring, no power point and no cost after you buy it
Where to Put It
  • Outdoor dining table — the Wide shape spreads its pattern further, which makes it the better centrepiece for alfresco meals
  • Pergola and verandah — hang several at staggered heights and the whole ceiling turns into pattern
  • Garden pathways — spaced along a path, the Tall shape marks the route without floodlighting the garden
  • Tree branches and shepherd's hooks — the metal hook takes any natural or garden support
  • Front porch and entryway — beside a door or on a step as a decorative welcome light
  • Balcony and courtyard — does the job of a pendant light with no wiring and no landlord conversation

One placement rule worth following: hang it where the shadow pattern has somewhere to land. A lantern in open air looks fine; the same lantern half a metre from a fence, a wall or a paling looks dramatically better, because that's where the weave actually shows up. Mixed heights along a beam beats matching sizes in a straight line, which reads more like a shopfront than a garden.

How It Works

1. The panel charges by day — a 2.5V 250mAh panel in the top lid converts sunlight and stores it in the 800mAh battery. A full charge takes 6–8 hours of direct sun.
2. The sensor detects dusk — a photosensitive sensor reads the falling ambient light at sunset and switches the LED on without any input from you.
3. The LED lights the weave from inside — the warm amber bulb illuminates the bamboo body from within rather than pointing outward.
4. The weave casts the pattern — light escapes through the open gaps between strands, throwing warm lines and shadows onto whatever sits nearby. At dawn the sensor switches it back off.

How to Set It Up

1. Peel the film off the solar panel — easy to miss, and the lantern won't charge properly with it still on.
2. Switch the base to ON — once only; from then on the sensor runs it.
3. Pick a spot with 6–8 hours of direct sun — avoid dense tree canopy or a solid roof overhang during charging hours.
4. Hang it or stand it — hook it over a branch, beam or shepherd's hook, or set it on a flat surface. It starts working automatically that evening.
Tip: summer days give you more charge than a summer night can use. Shorter winter days are when you'll notice runtime drop, so move it to the sunniest spot you have through winter.

Care and Maintenance
  • Dust the solar panel — a soft dry cloth from time to time keeps it charging at full efficiency
  • Brush the weave, don't soak it — a soft dry brush only; no soaking and no pressure hose near the bamboo
  • Expect some UV fade — Australian UV is brutal on natural fibre, so a lantern in full unbroken sun year-round will lighten over time. That's normal weathering, not damage. If you want it to stay as-is, hang it where the panel gets sun and the body gets shade, like under a verandah edge or pergola slats
  • Give it airflow in wet weather — in humid, coastal and tropical areas, what shortens a woven lantern's life is staying damp for weeks. Hanging it rather than sitting it on a wet deck solves that; after a long stretch of rain, bring it under cover to dry properly
  • Keep it away from heat — no open flames or direct heat sources near the bamboo
  • Store it dry — if it's going unused for months, switch it off and keep it indoors

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Tall and Wide styles?
Wide is a diamond shape measuring 18 × 26.5 cm and spreads its light pattern further, which suits an outdoor dining table. Tall is a cylinder measuring 11 × 26.5 cm and suits marking a garden path.
How long does the light last each night?
A full charge gives 10–12 hours of light. A full charge takes 6–8 hours of direct sun on the solar panel. Runtime can drop on shorter winter days, so move it to your sunniest spot through winter.
Do I need to switch it on every evening?
No. Peel the film off the solar panel, switch the base to ON once, and the dusk-to-dawn sensor takes over. It turns the LED on at sunset and off at dawn.
Can it stay outside in the rain?
The electronics are IP65 rated and sealed against rain and humidity. The woven body is natural fibre, so hanging it gives better airflow than sitting it on a wet deck. After a long stretch of rain, bring it under cover to dry properly.
Will the colour fade in the sun?
A lantern in full sun year-round will lighten over time. That is normal weathering for natural fibre, not damage. To slow it, hang the lantern where the panel gets sun and the body gets shade, such as under a verandah edge or pergola slats.
What is included and how do I clean it?
You receive 1 solar lantern in the style you select and 1 hanging hook. Dust the solar panel with a soft dry cloth and clean the weave with a soft dry brush only. Do not soak it or use a pressure hose.
