Most outdoor wall lights need an electrician, a cable chased through the wall, and a bill before anything is switched on. This one needs a drill and ten minutes. It is an 80 mm cube with the solar panel on top and the LED underneath, so it charges all day and washes light down the wall at night. No cable, no power point, no sparky.

Why It Stands Out
-
No wiring and no electrician — the whole reason people end up with a dark fence or a dark side path. Two screws into the wall and it is done.
-
It switches itself on at dusk — a light sensor reads the daylight and brings it up as the sun goes, then shuts it off at dawn. Nothing to set.
-
10 to 12 hours on a full charge — that is the whole night from a 6 to 8 hour charge, not a couple of hours after sunset.
-
A clean downward wash — the LED sits in a reflector behind a lens, so you get a defined cone down the wall rather than glare in every direction.
-
IP65 sealed — rain, sprinklers and a hose are fine. It stays on the fence through the year.
-
Two looks from the one light — press the button once for warm white, twice for colour. Every light does both, so you are not choosing between them at the checkout and changing your mind later costs nothing.
-
Small enough to repeat — an 80 mm cube reads as a detail, not a fitting. Four down a fence look designed; one big floodlight never does.

Where to Put Them
-
Along the back fence — the job they do best. A run of them turns a flat colorbond or paling fence into the backdrop of the yard instead of the edge of it.
-
Either side of the front door and the garage — entrance lighting that costs nothing to run and needs no switch.
-
Down the side path — the dark strip between the house and the fence that nobody ever gets around to lighting.
-
On deck posts and pergola uprights — washing down onto the boards where you need to see.
-
On the balcony wall — no power point, nothing to run past the door.
-
Retaining walls and brick planters — mounted at the top, throwing light down the face.

How It Works
1. The top face is the solar panel — 4.5 V polysilicon charging an 800 mAh battery inside the cube.
2. A light control sensor watches the daylight and switches the LED on as it falls away in the evening.
3. The LED sits in a reflector behind the lens, throwing the light down the wall in a defined cone.
4. It runs 10 to 12 hours and shuts off at dawn to start charging again.

How to Fit It
1. Pick a spot where the sun hits the top of the cube — the one that matters. Under an eave or in the shadow of the fence it will never charge.
2. Drill and plug the wall — the rubber plugs and screws are in the box.
3. Switch it on and set the mode before you hang it — the switch is on the back plate, so do it while the unit is in your hand. One press of the button gives you warm white, a second press gives you colour.
4. Hang the body on the plate and check it sits flat.
5. Give it a full day in the sun before you judge it — the first night on a part charge tells you nothing.
Tip: mount them at about 1.6 to 1.8 m. Lower and the cone of light stops short of the ground; higher and it spreads thin and the fence looks patchy between fittings.
NB: this is a dusk-to-dawn light, not a motion sensor light. There is no PIR — it comes on at dark and stays on rather than triggering when someone walks past. Listings for this style often call it a sensor light; the sensor is a daylight sensor. It is a decorative wash, not a security floodlight, and it throws light downward only — no up-and-down beam.

Care and Maintenance
-
Wipe the top every few weeks — dust and bird mess on the panel is the number one cause of a short run time.
-
Check the screws after a windy summer, especially on a paling fence that moves.
- Take them down if the house is being painted or pressure washed.
